National White Water Centre Water Release Notification

The Tryweryn Festival September 2010Releases from Llyn Celyn are controlled by the Environment Agency. There are a number of factors taken into consideration for releases including recreation, fisheries, power generation, flood control and water extraction. The National White Water Centre has an excellent relationship with the EA but the National White Water Centre does not have any control over water releases.

The EA advises us of the water releases and, as soon as we have received the release information, we up-date both this web-page and the water information line - 01678 520826

Lower river

The lower river is open whenever there is a release from the dam – to access just sign-in at the centre as normal. Coaches of groups not yet sufficiently experienced to sign for themselves must show their qualifications at reception and use the Coaches signing in book to sign on their behalf. There is no charge for this.

Please be aware that with significant rainfall the levels in the lower river will be substantially more than in the upper/centre section and may be in the trees/fields.

Important Information for paddlers: Please note that there is a new egress and portage inspection trail around Bala mill, please look out for the portage signs on river right approaching Bala Mill.

In the event of heavy rainfall it is possible for water releases to be changed or cancelled at short notice so please recheck this information at the latest opportunity before leaving home.

These releases are subject to weather conditions and may change at short notice – please check the water information line before travelling
